Homework Policy
Dear Students,
Homework has a definite place in the educational process. It is an extension of the learning experiences you have during the instructional day. Homework is designed to aid you in achieving classroom and school goals, and should not be used to punish or keep you busy. Homework will be approximately 1 to 1½ hour per day. At times, it may exceed 1½ hour but should not be more than 2 hours.
The Homework Given Will Fit In One Of These Four(4) Categories.
1. Remedial Drill – This is an extension of work that has been introduced in the class. This homework is an individualized drill activity designed to help strengthen any weak subject areas.
2. Review – Students should spend some time at home studying and preparing for tests.
3. Unfinished Work – This work has not been completed in class and is within the student’s capability to finish at home.
4. Research – This is work which involves the use of reference material or the internet. It is often given on an extended time basis.
Homework/Class Work When a Student Misses School
It is your responsibility to ask and complete any assignments that are missed when you are absent. Please have your parents call the school in advance to notify your teacher that your assignments will be picked up at the school office. You may pick up your child’s work after school or the next school day.
Late Homework Assignments
If your forgets your homework assignment or if the homework is incomplete, you will spend 10 minutes at RECESS TIME OUT or miss their electives as a consequence, and a note will be sent home indicating what assignment was incomplete. Late homework will be only accepted for full credit if your child has been absent or during a family emergency. Otherwise, late homework will be given partial credit when completed.
Discipline Policy for Not Turning in Homework
Should a student fail to turn in an assignment at the time it is due. The following course of action will be put into place:
1 Missing Assignment = 1 RECESS TIME OUT/10 Minutes/Payment of a Ticket
3 Missing Assignments = 3 RECESS TIME OUTS/Equals an After School Detention
3 After School Detentions = A Conduct Referral/Student may be put on an Academic Contract
If at anytime homework becomes a problem, please talk to your teacher(s) or have your parents send in a note. We can arrange a time before or after school and find a solution together.
